VAMC Manchester, New Hampshire
Reintegration Clinic for Returning Unit
Soldiers of the 237th MP Company being briefed.
On Saturday, April 5, 2014 the Manchester VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Manchester, NH welcomed home the 237th Military Police Company, New Hampshire Army National Guard based out of Concord, NH. Although this unit returned from Afghanistan on January 16, 2014 and had a Welcome Home Ceremony attended by the Governor and Adjutant General, the Manchester VAMC had their own, unique Welcome Home Event planned.
The Manchester VAMC held a one-day Reintegration Clinic, from 8:00A – 4:30P for all 110 deployed soldiers, under the Command of Captain Sam Webber. They were welcomed to the facility by the Medical Center Director, Tammy Krueger.
The Reintegration Clinic, coordinated by Kristin Maxwell, Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) Program Manager allowed each of the soldiers to talk to and be seen by a variety of services, such as Primary Care, Dental Service, Enrollment/Eligibility, Chaplain Services, Mental Health, Therapeutic Supported Employment Services Program, and Social Work Services, which provided screenings for TBI/Polytrauma, Case Management, and Iraq and Afghanistan. Also available for the soldiers to meet with were representatives from Veterans Benefits Affairs, Easter Seals, and Vet Center.
The Reintegration Clinic Staff “bent over backwards at every step of the day and were incredibly focused on customer service…..everyone was incredibly helpful and focused on accomplishing their missions.” stated MAJ Justin Strevig, Director, Service Member and Family Services, New Hampshire National Guard.
The Manchester VAMC was honored to provide this day long clinic and, when needed in the future, will implement the same clinic for other returning units to New Hampshire.
